About Adrien Emond
When Adrien Emond returned to Séguret in the Southern Rhône, it was as if he was seeing it for the first time. Though he had grown up there, Adrien spent years honing his craft under some of Burgundy’s most respected winemakers, which gave him a new POV before launching his own eponymous project. He spent three years alongside Cécile Tremblay in Vosne-Romanée, formative time with François Carillon in Puligny-Montrachet, and later completed a stint at Domaine Santa Duc just down the road in Gigondas. In 2021, he returned home to take over two hectares of old Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre vines nestled at the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Surrounded by forests, mountains, and the Ouvèze River, Séguret’s sandy, calcareous clay soils, cool climate, and high elevation provide the ideal conditions for producing wines of freshness, finesse, and aromatic complexity; sprinkled with inspiration from his time away.
Adrien works in close concert with the rhythms of the land, following the biodynamic calendar and leading in the vineyard with strong intuition. The vineyard is meticulously tended by hand using 100% organic farming and practices including gentle pruning, manual disbudding, and multiple soil cultivations throughout the season to encourage deep root growth. The soils are naturally covered with grasses in winter to preserve soil life and are cultivated with biodiversity starting in March to minimize competition from grass during the peak growing season.
In the cellar, Adrien relies exclusively on indigenous yeasts, avoids oenological additives, and uses only minimal sulfur to produce his singular cuvée, Les Jardins. A traditional blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and 25% Mourvèdre, the wine is made with 20% whole-cluster Grenache, while the remaining fruit is de-stemmed. All of the grapes are hand-harvested and undergo five weeks of cold maceration with gentle pump-overs and pigeage before spending eight months in élevage, split between used demi-muids from Chassin and Rousseau and stainless steel tanks.
A small project, Adrien’s long-term vision is more ambitious. This year, he plans to plant Clairette Blanche, Clairette Rose, and Bourboulenc, according to the same organic and biodynamic principles. Eventually, he plans to bottle each parcel separately, drawing inspiration from the Burgundian tradition of expressing vineyards plot by plot, terroir by terroir. It is a vision rooted in remarkable patience — one that reflects not only a deep reverence for the land, but also a belief that every site deserves the chance to speak for itself. Our belief lies in Adrien’s remarkable ability to express terroir and fruit purity in every sip, so we’re thrilled to be his partner for the USA.
